known for the food, movies, lights and heritage. However, it is also known for
being a gateway to hundreds of heavenly travel destinations, like the 7 Sisters

coastal destinations in the south. Today, we are going to talk about a couple
of lesser known destinations from Kolkata and within the state of West Bengal
which are not for a long stay and is best enjoyed when you’re planning on a
short trip like a long weekend.
Samsing
Situated
in the Jalpaiguri District of West Bengal, it’s a heavenly spot of anyone who
wishes to enjoy some time alone in the hills. Known for its picturesque
landscape with beautiful tea gardens, green forests and hills, it is quite an
attraction for tourists who are planning out an off-beat trip. Located at an
elevation of about 3000 feet above sea level, the weather is cool year-round
with a little high degree of rain-fall. So make sure to take your winter and
monsoon gear while visiting this place. There are quite a few beautiful places
to see here like, Rocky Island, Suntaley Khola and Lali Guas. The Neora Valley
National Park, situated about 18 kms from Samsing is the home to the Red Panda
in their undisturbed natural habitat and is considered as one the richest
biological zones in eastern India with a massive variety of flora and fauna.
Talsari
Situated at West Bengal-Odisha border, this peaceful sea
beach is only about 8 kms away from the super popular beaches of Digha and is
one of the frequented beaches in West Bengal and Odisha. Shrouded in tranquillity,
this destination is perfect who are looking for some solitude far away from the
chaos of the Kolkata megacity. Located at the confluence of Subarnarekha river
and Bay of Bengal the beautiful beach consisting of white sand, tall coconut

visit for any beach lover. It is quite easy to reach with two trains to New
Digha from the Howrah Station and from there it’s only about 20-30 minutes by
cab or local transport.
Duarsini
It is the least known place in this list and actually is one
the least known places in West Bengal. Located at the foothills of a mound in
the Purulia district, this one of those places where one sit alone and spend
hours by the bank of the Satugurang River which flows through this area. Home
to the local tribal communities like Santhals, Mundas and Kheriyas, this hill
station offers an excellent option to the adventure lovers who wish to trek
through the forest laden hills, however, getting a local guide as absolutely
recommended. This ethnic location smells of fresh air, wilderness and adventure
along with the sound of the tribal drums from the nearby villages at dusk.
