Best Hill Station in Himachal Pradesh and Where to Stay

Best Hill Station in Himachal Pradesh and Where to Stay

Himachal is one of the most exciting places to visit in India as a family trip or as an adventure loving backpacker due to the magnificent snowclad Himalayas and the picturesque beauty of the green lower ranges. It is really quite tough to list the best destinations in this beautiful state since in some ways one of better than the other but we have tried our best to shortlist the following 3 locations in no particular order.

Manali

Situated in the northern end of the Kullu Valley, it’s one the most popular destinations for Indian tourists in the summer. Situated on the banks of the Beas River, the place gets entirely snow cladded during the winters with temperature going as low as – 5 degree Celsius. It’s a really fun place for adventure tourists who can find activities like ice skating, the Soland Valley paragliding and the trek routes likes Beas Kund and Chandrakhani Pass. Hidimba Devi Temple and Sulphur Springs are also attractive tourist spots. Rhotang pass is the main attraction of Manali which is a mountainous pass that remains covered with snow throughout the year. If you are planning to take a road trip to Ladakh, Manali connects you to the Lahaul and Spiti Valley which leads the road straight to Leh.

Shimla

Best Hill station in Himachal Pradesh Shimla

The capital city of Himachal Pradesh, has always been a popular summer retreat since the British Raj and is one of the most popular honeymoon spots in India. Built during the English colonial era of India, the Shimla is known for the beautiful Victorian architecture of the building. Located at around 2200 meters above sea level it has a wonderful cool climate throughout the year with evergreen dense mountain forests all around it. The winters are very cold owing to the frequent snowfalls during December to February and not very favourable for visiting. While you are there don’t forget to check out the joyous Toy Train ride, The Christ Church and The State Museum. The restaurants, the colonial styled building of the Mall Road and the Summer Hill will also fulfil your travel dream in every way.

Kasol

Best Hill station in Himachal Pradesh Kasol

Situated in the Parvati Valley, on the banks of the Parvati River, it is one of those places where you can get lost within yourself in the mountains without the worries of your mundane life. It is a laid-back, beautiful tourist destination for people who seek serenity and want to get away from everything once in a while. Kasol is quite well connected to big cities like Delhi and Chandigarh which has regular luxury bus services to and from the village. Known as Mini Israel, it is one the hotspots of Israeli and other firangi tourists in India and has excellent food options in the local restaurants with variety of cuisines ranging from Indian to Western. Even though guest houses and homestays are available for cheap, you can opt for your own camp right at the outskirts of the Kasol village if you opt for your tent which offers a stunning view of the snow-cladded Himalayas. Check out the link below to get assistance if you plan on camping there.

Apart from these there are many more places that we’ve loved visiting in Himachal like Kasauli, Lahaul and Spiti Valley. Do visit those places too especially Lahaul while you are there if you like adventures as much as we do!
